In February, 2009, I arrived in Oman to pursue teaching and media research as a Fulbright senior scholar. I taught at Al Bayan College in Muscat, Oman. While there I learned about the Omani culture and its heritage. I also studied media topics related to truth claims and trustable sources of information. Ultimately, I learned that the Omani people trusted information obtained on the internet far more so than they trusted broadcast media.
I was invited to speak at a variety of venues including:
1) Ministry of Higher Education, Muscat, Oman. “Journalism Basics – Telling Stories of Personal Experience,” April 2009 (see http://flta.fulbrightonline.org/highlights.html).
2) Higher College of Technology, Muscat, Oman. “Visual Communication – Communicating Messages Without Words,” May 2009.
3) Oman Medical College, Muscat, Oman, “Nonverbal Communication; Understanding What Patients Are Telling You Without Words” June, 2009.
4) British American Academy, Muscat, Oman, June 2009, “Digital Media Production Workshop.”
Additionally, the Oman Ministry of Higher Education and the United States Embassy invited me to premiere my photography in a solo exhibition at the venerable art museum, "Bait Al Baranda". I showed 52 pieces in an exhibit that ran for 10 days in April of 2009.
